In October 2019, the Code Council published an independent study comparing model plumbing codes, revealing that over 12 years, districts using IPC saved $38 billion in construction costs, emitted 1,000,000 tons less carbon dioxide, added 166,000 jobs, and saved 880 million feet of pipe. Key changes in the 2021 IPC include:
Multi-user toilets, suitable for all genders, are now allowed.
Two new methods for relining/rehabilitating existing sewers have been added.
Spaces for roof-mounted solar panels were added above the vent plugs.
